Rather than spending extra money on Mrs. Dash or other saltless seasonings, use what you have in your cupboard to make a similar handy herb blend. This is the recipe I used, but you can make your own recipe from what you have on hand.
Makes about 1/3 cup.
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp dry parsley
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp sage
- 1 tsp savory
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp sumac (or ground dried orange peel)
- 1 tsp marjoram
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp ground coriander
- 2/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp cayenne
- 1/4 tsp mace
Directions:
- Place all ingredients in a small bottle, cap it and give it a shake to combine.
- Use on baked tofu, lentil loaf, omelets, and a variety of other dishes.
- Cap tightly, store away from heat and light. Use within 6 months.
