Cleaning produce, especially fresh-picked vegetables and fruits from the garden, is a concern for home cooks. Vegetable wash products can be very expensive, yet plain water wash is not adequate in some cases. Here is how I clean my garden harvest economically. I use Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap. The 18-in-1 Hemp Citrus Orange Pure Castile Soap has a clean and natural lemony fragrance. It is a very concentrated liquid and is certified Fair Trade and non-GMO. I fill a 16 oz spray bottle with 1 1/2 cups water. I then add 1 tablespoon of the Citrus Soap. Spray this dilution on fruits and solid vegetables. Use a vegetable brush to clean, then rinse thoroughly. For leafy greens, I use a tablespoon of the mixture in a large basin of water. Swish the greens around and allow to stand 30 seconds before rinsing carefully. I hope you find this method to be as carefree, effective, and economical as I have!
