Sweet Chili Sauce, “Nuoe Cham Ga”, is available in most Asian markets. It is sweet and a bit tangy, mildly hot, and is often used as a dipping sauce for egg rolls. (It may be called Thai Sweet Chili Sauce.) Be sure to get a vegetarian variety, one without fish sauce in it.
Serves 3.
Ingredients:
- 1 block of extra firm tofu (12-16 oz)
- 2 Tbsp sweet white miso (‘Kyoto-style’)
- 1 Tbsp water
- 2 Tbsp Sweet Chili Sauce
- 1 tsp toasted sesame seed oil
Directions:
- Rinse the tofu and cut it in quarters. Slice each quarter crosswise in three, then cut on the diagonal to form triangle-shaped pieces. Place the pieces in a single layer on a clean tea towel. Place another clean towel on top, cover with a board or sheet pan and weigh it down with a heavy pot or can. Allow to drain 30 minutes or more.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and lightly oil a medium baking sheet. In a small shallow bowl, stir together the miso, water, sweet chili sauce, and toasted sesame oil. Dip all tofu triangles in the sauce and place side by side on the prepared baking sheet. Bake 20 minutes. Turn the tofu triangles over with a spatula, and return to oven to bake another 20 minutes. Serve with additional Thai Sweet Chili Sauce.
