This sauce goes well with Toad in the Hole, Canadian Poutine, or baked potatoes. It is easy to make, contains no additives, and will save you the cost of expensive packets of sauce mix.
Makes about 2 1/2 cups.
Ingredients:
- 2 c chicken style vegetarian broth
- 1 tsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp dry parsley
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/8 tsp pepper
- 4 Tbsp butter or margarine
- 2 tsp brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp all purpose flour
Directions:
- In a small saucepan, heat the broth until nearly simmering, and whisk in the Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, parsley, paprika, mustard powder, salt and pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a medium saucepan over medium low heat, melt the butter with the brown sugar. Whisk in the flour until bubbling.
- Add the broth mixture, continuously whisking until simmering, thickened and smooth. Serve hot.
