Easy Whole Wheat Tortillas

Easy Whole Wheat Tortillas

These are great used in bean burritos or in our Egg and Olive Spirals. You will be surprised at how easy they are to make!

Makes 8 large tortillas.

  • 1 1/2 c stone ground whole wheat flour
  • 2 Tbsp gluten flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c grapeseed oil or other good vegetable oil
  • 1 c very hot water

  1. In a large bowl, blend together the whole wheat flour, gluten flour, and salt.
  2. Add oil and hot water and blend well. (Add another tablespoon or two of hot water if needed.)
  3. Knead for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Divide dough into 8 even dough bits. Roll each into a ball.
  5. Heat a dry griddle or heavy skillet on medium high.
  6. On clean dry surface, roll one of the dough balls into a large (about 10 inch) tortilla. Place it on the hot pan or griddle for a couple of minutes per side. When cooked and beginning to blister, stack it on a platter and repeat with the remaining dough balls.
  7. Use immediately, or allow to cool. Cover with plastic wrap until served.
